Takang Aya Ayuk
President, Close the Gap Association · Country Coordinator, Disability Awareness Day (Cameroon)
Takang Aya Ayuk is a dedicated disability rights advocate and community leader who has contributed significantly to promoting the rights, dignity, inclusion, and participation of persons with disabilities.
He currently serves as President of the Close the Gap Association in Kumba, Cameroon, and as Cameroon Country Coordinator for Disability Awareness Day — roles through which he promotes disability awareness, social inclusion, empowerment, and equal opportunities within his community and beyond.
Takang is a person with a mobility impairment who has shown remarkable resilience and determination in navigating life’s challenges. Having lost both parents, he has faced significant personal hardship while continuing to pursue his livelihood, leadership responsibilities, and advocacy for persons with disabilities.
He is also a skilled shoemaker and shoe mender, and through his craft has built a livelihood that demonstrates the importance of skills development, self-reliance, and economic empowerment for persons with disabilities.
Takang remains committed to advancing disability inclusion, raising awareness of the rights and potential of persons with disabilities, and contributing to a society where everyone can participate meaningfully and live with dignity.
